What is a Time to Pay Arrangement?
When a company begins to fall behind, it is usually HMRC that is paid last as bills such as suppliers, wages and rent are the first to be paid. This was recognised by the government and for over ten years HMRC have been willing, dependent on circumstances, to enter into payment arrangements.
What is needed to enter into a Time to Pay Arrangement?
HMRC will require evidence that the company can afford to pay its ongoing liabilities along with the repayment of the outstanding debt usually in the format of a cash flow forecast. HMRC will only accept these arrangements if there is a real chance of the company regaining its financial stability.

How do I know that a Time to Pay Arrangement is right for my business?
The first step and the most important, is to ensure that you know exactly what your business can afford to pay. If you simply accept the installment requested by HMRC and then default, they will have no confidence in the business and may not accept any future requests.
How long is the duration of a Time to Pay Arrangement?
HMRC do not accepted reduced settlement on outstanding taxes so they have to be paid in full. The arrangement usually last no longer than 6 -12 months but can stretch further than that in some exceptional cases.
Do HMRC refuse time to pay arrangements?
If you have previously had a repayment plan agreed that you haven’t maintained, your tax returns are late or overdue or you haven’t provided sufficient information, HMRC may reject a request for a TTP. Do not worry, there are other options available.
The sooner you act, the higher the probability of HMRC accepting a payment arrangement, call us on 0800 0465 600 to see if a Time to pay arrangement is suitable for you.

There are many ways in which debt can affect a business. Lines of credit from suppliers are the lifeblood of most businesses as it allows them to purchase the required stock that they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to. If these were to cease it could have a devastating impact on production and subsequently profit.
